Strategic Purpose Statement |
This qualification is for those already working in the kitchen and bathroom design industry to further their knowledge and skills at an advanced level.
The qualification is designed to provide the kitchen and bathroom design industry with qualified people who have the specialist knowledge and skills required to design functional and aesthetic kitchens or bathrooms from conception to installation in a variety of commercial spaces, as well as design for special needs and multi-storey buildings, and using principles of sustainability. The contextual endorsement for this qualification recognises the context within which the graduate profile outcomes have been achieved. Graduates will be capable of working autonomously in a range of situations and managing their own learning in dynamic and varied contexts. They will also be able to take responsibility for leadership in the design process, in the context of managing and/or operating a professional kitchen or bathroom interior design practice. |

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Interpret and operate within the regulatory framework as it applies to kitchen or bathroom design. - Communicate effectively with parties to the kitchen or bathroom design process. - Apply knowledge of construction theory and practice in day to day kitchen or bathroom design contexts. - Research and analyse information to inform kitchen or bathroom design. - Manage the kitchen or bathroom design process. - Manage the day to day operations of a kitchen or bathroom design practice. - Conceptualise, develop, and present designs and product specifications for kitchens or bathrooms. |

Education pathways |
Candidates for this diploma must have completed the New Zealand Certificate in Design (Level 5) (with strands in Kitchen Design or Bathroom Design) or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.
Graduates of this diploma may study Interior Design, at a higher level. |

Entry Requirements |
Prerequisite for entry: New Zealand Certificate in Design (Level 5) (with strands in Kitchen Design or Bathroom Design) [Ref: 3221] or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.
For the purpose of this qualification, commercial spaces may include retail spaces, cafes, workplaces, apartments, schools, community spaces, cultural spaces, retirement villages, workplaces, outdoor spaces, and cultural spaces. It does not include commercial kitchens as found in restaurants. |
