Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of this certificate is to provide students with foundation literacy, numeracy and study skills and/or vocational skills to continue into study in a chosen range of fields. Students will also be able to work towards NCEA level 2 and may gain credits for National Certificates.
Graduate profile
Graduates from the Certificate in Vocational Skills (Introductory) will be able to:
1. demonstrate knowledge of the requirements of tertiary study;
2. apply a range of fundamental skills to progress their learning at tertiary education level, including:
* use library and internet resources to search for information;
* using verbal, listening and writing skills to communicate clearly in English;
* perform calculations and demonstrate knowledge of measurement;
* demonstrate digital literacy at a beginning level; and
3. demonstrate specific foundation skills and knowledge related to a chosen vocational pathway.
Education pathways
Students may carry onto study in the field of Vocational Skills at a higher level.

Level

The NZQF has ten levels. Level one is least complex and is often entry-level, for example foundation certificates. Levels eight to ten are the most complex, and include post-graduate study.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
