Strategic Purpose Statement
The Diploma in Art and Design (Advanced) offers students a broad range of learning experiences within the arts including; contemporary and historical art theory, the critical analysis of art, practical art media skills, arts research, work experience within the creative arts and the professional presentation of art and artist. These experiences will enable the student to make informed career and continuing study choices within the creative arts. The Diploma in Art and Design (Advanced) enables students to choose a preferred media of exploration to specialise within.

The Diploma in Art and Design (Advanced) will provide the student with the advanced level of knowledge, skills and competence required for practitioners in the creative arts industry; and for entry into the final year of a Bachelor of Fine Arts program or teacher training of secondary school art.
Graduate profile
On successful completion of this programme, students will have the skills and knowledge to:
1. Demonstrate a wide range of practical media skills at an advanced level, that of an independently practicing studio artist. 2. Demonstrate critical thinking by utilizing design and art historical theory in relation to one's own art practice and that of others.
3. Demonstrate the ability to devise a professional management plan to coordinate a practical art exhibition.
4. Generate, develop and sustain, both formally and critically, studio research.
5. Generate work that is pertinent to contemporary art practice.
6. Produce artefacts or art experiences to professional exhibition standards.
7. Identify clear vocational pathways.
Education pathways
Graduates may continue with further study in:
1. Teacher training of secondary school art
2. Bachelor of Fine Arts programme (entry into the final year of four year programme)
Entry Requirements
Level 6 Art and Design qualification or equivalent. Applicants may gain entry through assessment of prior learning.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
