Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification provides the automotive electrical engineering industry with highly skilled specialist technicians who have attained the knowledge and skills required to safely and effectively carry out complex system fault diagnostics and repair work on automotive electrical and electronic systems on vehicles or machines.

This qualification is designed for people working in the industry in an advanced technical role within an automotive electrical engineering context.

Graduates may have some responsibility for leadership in the business and for the overall performance of the workshop.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Oversee team responsibilities and ensure compliance with legislative and company requirements to maintain a safe and effective workplace.
- Apply advanced technical skills and operational knowledge to diagnose and repair complex faults in vehicle electrical and electronic systems including high voltage systems, on vehicles or machines.
- Design, build, test and install complex electrical systems, including wiring diagrams, that contain electronic devices.
Education pathways
This qualification follows on from the New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Electrical Engineering (Level 4) [Ref: 3460] and may lead to a management qualification, for example the New Zealand Diploma in Business (Level 6) with strands in Accounting, Administration and Technology, Human Resource Management, Leadership and Management, Māori Business and Management, and Marketing and Sales [Ref: 2460].
