Strategic Purpose Statement
The aim of this qualification is to develop the student's knowledge and skills in the field of social and community services practice at a beginning level and to provide a pathway for students to enrol in the Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Social Work) or other diploma and degree level qualifications.
Graduate profile
On successful completion of the Certificate in Community and Social Services, students will have gained skills and knowledge at an introductory level and will be able to: * demonstrate academic writing skills; * demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of ethics, values and world view associated with customs, culture and practices in a bi-cultural and multicultural context; * demonstrate an awareness and understanding of Maori social, economical and political contexts within historical and contemporary settings; * demonstrate knowledge and skills required to work in the field of community and social services; * demonstrate an understanding of social and political structures and processes that disadvantage and discriminate against people; * promote social justice and social change for individuals, families and communities through their behaviour and practice; * demonstrate an understanding of theoretical learning, knowledge and skills in professional practice and community social service provision; * demonstrate an awareness of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi and its application to social policy, social justice and social change; and * demonstrate an understanding of ethical behaviour in interactions with whanau, colleagues and the community, in accordance with the ANZASW Codes of Ethics and any other relevant Codes of Ethics, Codes of Conduct or Practice in consideration of Maori cultural practices and those of other ethnic groups.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
