Strategic Purpose Statement |
This qualification provides the aquatics sector with specialised swim and water safety teachers who have advanced industry knowledge and experience teaching swimming techniques.
This qualification is intended for candidates who wish to work as specialised swim and water safety teachers or instructors. Graduates will be able to plan, deliver and evaluate specialised aquatic education programmes under indirect supervision. The strands of the qualification recognise the knowledge and practical skills for the candidate's chosen area of specialisation. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Implement health and safety policies and procedures for specialised aquatic programmes and population groups to ensure safe and enjoyable aquatic experiences. - Take responsibility for own professional conduct and development to maintain currency of skills and knowledge of aquatic trends and research - Facilitate and promote learn to swim and water safety programmes while interacting with a wide range of groups and individuals to increase participation in aquatic activities. Graduates of the Early Childhood Swimmers strand will also be able to: - Plan, deliver and evaluate swim, water safety and specialised aquatic education programmes to develop early childhood swimmers. Graduates of the Adult Swimmers strand will also be able to: - Plan, deliver and evaluate swim, water safety and specialised aquatic education programmes to develop confidence and swimming techniques in adult swimmers Graduates of the Adaptive Aquatics strand will also be able to: - Plan, deliver, observe and adapt swim, water safety and specialised aquatic education programmes to improve access and inclusion for participants including those with rehabilitation, intervention and injury requirements. Graduates of the Stroke Mechanics strand will also be able to: - Plan, deliver and evaluate swim, water safety and specialised aquatic education programmes to improve stroke techniques and the performance of participants. |

This qualification builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Aquatics (Level 3) with strands in Pool Lifeguard, Swim and Water Safety Teacher, and Aquafitness Instructor [Ref: 3503].
This qualification may lead to the New Zealand Diploma in Facility Management (Level 6) [Ref: 3648]. |

The New Zealand Certificate in Aquatics (Level 3) with strand in Swim and Water Safety Teacher [Ref: 3503] must be achieved for entry to this qualification.
It is strongly recommended that all individuals hold a current practising first aid certificate at the point they are awarded the qualification |
