Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide Aotearoa New Zealand with graduates who can protect and advocate for children.

Graduates will be able to speak out and take action to promote safety and wellbeing of children and a culture of child protection, and will be empowered to take a leadership role to advocate for children in situations where an organisation, community or societal response is required.

This qualification is designed for people who are working in or intending to enter into roles that affect children.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Implement evidence-based and child-centred practice to protect and advocate for the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in a range of environments
- Apply advanced strategies to identify, prevent and respond to child abuse and neglect, and promote safety and wellbeing for children, young people and their family and/or whānau
- Model best practice in child protection in organisation and community settings to encourage consistent and safe responses to the needs of children and young people.
- Engage with and support families and whānau from diverse cultural contexts in a child-centred way to promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
Education pathways
The qualification may build on the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Social and Community Services) (Level 4) [Ref: 2992] and/or the New Zealand Diploma in Health and Wellbeing (Practice/Applied Practice) (Level 5) [Ref: 3244].

This qualification may lead to higher level qualifications within the child protection sector.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
