Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the hospitality sector with work-ready managers for a range of hospitality settings. With communication, leadership, entrepreneurship, and the soft skills required in the hospitality industry combined with problem-solving, marketing, strategy, innovation, and specialised technical skills and knowledge, graduates will have enhanced employment opportunities in all sectors of the hospitality industry. Graduates will be able to operate at a supervisory management level demonstrating specialist knowledge and skills and the standards of professional practice required by the hospitality sector. This Diploma in Hospitality Management is designed for graduates of hospitality programmes at lower levels, or international students who are graduates of degree programmes overseas. Graduates may become accomplished managers, capable of working across a range of hospitality enterprises, inclusive of restaurants, cafes, hotels, conferences, and catering organisations. It will also cater to those within the hospitality industry who wish to enhance their skills and knowledge base at a more advanced level.
Graduate profile
After successful completion of this qualification, graduates will be able to: *apply management principles, including organisational management, accounting, and marketing; *understand the nature of the hospitality industry, the sound management of hospitality-related businesses, and hospitality strategies; *professionally and effectively monitor and maintain hospitality operating procedures and compliance requirements; *refine verbal and written communication skills, including appropriate use of technology to achieve workplace proficiency; *implement staffing strategies to facilitate positive staff relationships in a hospitality environment; *plan, develop, implement, and evaluate marketing strategies and event occasions; *exhibit supervisory and leadership skills to staff whilst building cohesive teams; *apply research techniques to real-world situations as a part of own development as an independent and effective problem solver.

Entry Requirements
The following minimum criteria apply to this programme for Domestic Students: Academic Criteria: 18 years or older; achievement of 10 credits in literacy at Level 2 or above, made up of 5 credits in reading and 5 credits in writing; and achievement of 10 credits in numeracy at Level 1 or above, made up of: achievement standards - specified achievement standards are available through a range of subjects, or unit standards- package of three numeracy unit standards (26623, 26626, 26627 - all three are required). Or successful completion of a qualification at level 5 or above in Hospitality/ Tourism /Event Management. Or Evidence of equivalent practical, professional, or education experience: three years' full-time work experience. For domestic applicants for whom English is not their first language, evidence of language competency may be required. International Students English Language Requirements International students for whom English is not their first language will be required to show evidence of language competency, issued within the last two years, before being eligible to enrol in any non-English programme. The level of competency required is outlined in Rule 18 and Appendix 2 of the NZQF Programme and Accreditation Rules 2013 and below under the title English Competency. Degree Level 7 IELTS Academic score of 6 with no band lower than 5.5 or a completed NZ Certificate in English Language Level 4 with the academic endorsement or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcomes as outlined in Rule 18 and Appendix 2 of the NZQF Programme and Accreditation Rules 2013. here Minimum of Level 5 Diploma in Hospitality or associated field and one year's work experience; or a degree of any discipline. Special Admission New Zealand School of Education may consider students for special admission who do not satisfy the standard academic entry requirements of a programme but who in the opinion of the Programme Leader/Head of School are capable of achieving the programme outcomes. This includes applicants over 20 years, who do not meet the entry criteria, but have relevant experience and capability to succeed in the programme. Evidence of capability may be required.

Content
Fundamental knowledge of professionalism within the hospitality industry, and core skills for delivering customer service. Students will also develop introductory skills in sourcing, interpreting, utilising and presenting information in various ways to support the provision of professional customer service. Knowledge and skills to analyse sales and marketing cycles within the hospitality industry, and the development of a strategic marketing plan and a sales tactical plan. Customer-focused approach to service management within the context of the hospitality industry. Students will explore concepts of customer service, customer satisfaction and the independent nature of the hospitality industry, and how these influence and impact business performance. Practical experience in a commercial hospitality setting, application of theoretical knowledge and further development of practical skills and capabilities in a service sector operation. Students will also develop reflective skills throughout the work placement as they observe and analyse workplace dynamics, operational processes, commercial practices, and their own performance in achieving organisational objectives and working as part of a commercial team. The national and international environment in which the New Zealand hospitality industry operates, an awareness of critical issues facing the hospitality sector and knowledge of strategies for the development of competitive advantage. Staffing strategies and supervisory skills needed to co-ordinate the diversity of personnel, role responsibilities and professional capabilities required for operational effectiveness and meeting service delivery requirements within hospitality organisations. Practical experience in a commercial hospitality setting, and the opportunity for students to apply theoretical knowledge and further develop their practical skills and capabilities in hospitality operations. Students will also develop reflective skills throughout the internship as they observe and analyse workplace dynamics, operational processes, commercial practices and their own performance in achieving organisational objectives and working as part of a commercial team.
