Strategic Purpose Statement |
To support students to advance research methods as a practice-based methodology to achieve a critically informed body of creative work that contributes to the subject knowledge of fine arts; apply practice-based and academic critical evaluation skills and understanding to inform a significant self-directed, independent research inquiry/project; adapt and situate independent creative outcomes within key theoretical, contextual and critical frameworks of reference and influence; communicate and present a critical evaluation of the significance of the research project to the wider field of fine arts.

Graduates are intellectually and creatively independent and able to critically understand, evaluate and generate new and complex ideas, forms and knowledge; skilled in material, visual and academic research and inquiry and adept at exploring ideas through making; capable of producing significant creative outcomes in academic contexts and formats as well those appropriate to their chosen creative profession; confident and knowledgeable, with a significantly developed understanding and appreciation of a range of fine art and creative processes, practices and professions; articulate and communicative, and able to present and critically frame creative and theoretical research and inquiry in a range of modes (oral, written, visual); able to adapt and critically situate creative outcomes and practice to succeed in a changing professional environment, and make a significant contribution to a chosen field of creative practice.

Entry Requirements |
Applicants must attend an interview and present evidence of successful completion of an undergraduate diploma or degree qualification equivalent to level 7 on the NZQF; a GPA of their final undergraduate year of B- or above; a portfolio that reflects their skills and potential to successfully complete the programme; a letter of intent of declaration of research interests; academic writing ability which reflects the potential for successful study at the graduate level. Applicants whose first language is not English, are required to provide satisfactory evidence of proficiency such as 6.5 IELTS.

Stand alone PG qual, directly following on from the Level 7 BFA degree. Its purpose is to consolidate the learning and achievements of the BFA undergraduate study through the realisation of sustained practice-based, studio centred, research inquiry and to prepare students for professional life as creative practitioners in the wider arts and design industries and for further PG study in Fine Arts.
