Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide New Zealand with people who have the skills necessary to select, summarise, and represent data, as well as interpret and use statistics, to contribute to evidence-based decision making.
Graduates of the qualification will benefit the public and their organisations by having the analytic skills required for making evidence-based policy recommendations. Graduates of this qualification will be capable of working with data and statistics under minimal supervision and may work with producers and users of statistics in their own and other organisations. |

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Source, evaluate, summarise, and represent relevant data and statistics relevant to a policy recommendation or advice in an appropriate format, with consideration of legal and ethical contexts and any international obligations. - Critically appraise summary reports based on data or Official Statistics to inform the policy cycle. - Interpret and communicate the implications or inferences that can be drawn from data and statistical summaries in a defined context. |

This qualification may build on from:
- New Zealand Certificate in Public Sector Practice (Level 3) [Ref: 3635] - Undergraduate degrees or diplomas. Upon completion of this qualification, graduates may progress onto: - New Zealand Diploma in Public Sector Leadership (Level 6) [Ref: 3639] - specialist qualifications or business qualifications - generic public service and other undergraduate degree programmes. |
