Strategic Purpose Statement |
The Bachelor of Applied Information Technology is a qualification designed to
prepare graduates for employment in both the hardware and software fields of computing. Students will develop knowledge and skills that will enable them to specialise in the design and maintenance of computer systems, databases, programming, operating systems, computer networking, internet and web development, and technical support for a wide range of industries. Students will choose an area of specialisation from Networking and Technical Support; Software Development; or Web Design and Development and develop specific knowledge and skills in these areas that will assist them to work effectively in their field of practice. Students who wish to pursue the qualification without a specialist area will develop the knowledge and skills to work as a generalist in the Information Technology field. |

Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Applied Information
Technology, all graduates will be able to: 1. Research, evaluate and apply the underpinning theoretical knowledge and skills required to work in the computing and technology fields. 2. Apply technical and conceptual thinking in the computing and technology fields. 3. Apply communication, information design, personal, and interpersonal skills, clearly and professionally to enhance working effectiveness, efficiency, and quality outcomes within their professional practice. 4. Demonstrate an enquiring, flexible, creative and critical attitude towards contemporary issues and underlying theoretical concepts as an emerging Information Technology professional. 5. Demonstrate an awareness of social and ethical issues and have the ability to function positively in a culturally diverse professional environment. Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Applied Information Technology, all graduates from the major in Networking and Technical Support will also be able to: 1. Research, evaluate and apply advanced methodologies and techniques in relation to networking technologies. 2. Apply technical and conceptual thinking in the networking, Information technology and technical support fields. 3. Practice as emerging professionals in the networking field. Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Applied Information Technology, all graduates from the major in Software Development will also be able to: 1. Research, evaluate and apply advanced software development methodologies and techniques in relation to current technologies. 2. Apply technical and conceptual thinking to analyse, design, implement and document solutions to a range of real-world software development problems. 3. Practice as emerging professionals in the software development field. Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Applied Information Technology, all graduates from the major in Web Design and Development will also be able to: 1. Research, evaluate and apply advanced web design and development methodologies and techniques in relation to current technologies. 2. Apply technical and conceptual thinking to research, design and develop a range of real-world web design and development problems. 3. Practice as emerging professional web developers. |

Entry Requirements |
NCEA (with University Entrance); or New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology Essentials (Level 4); or evidence of ability to meet academic
requirements, and English language competency where English is not a first language. For international applicants who come from non English speaking backgrounds, an IELTS Academic score of 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5, or an equivalent relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in NZQF related rules (Rule 18). |
