Strategic Purpose Statement |
This qualification will provide the New Zealand dive industries with multi-skilled specialty dive instructors. Graduates will have the skills and knowledge to independently instruct and assess open water divers, and to independently instruct and assess recreational SCUBA divers in the use of a range of specialised equipment and techniques, and the management of diving emergency situations.
Graduates will also be able to coordinate retail, and plan, prepare and lead dive training operations for a dive facility operation. |

Graduate profile |
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Instruct and assess recreational open water divers. - Instruct and assess recreational SCUBA divers in the use specialised equipment and techniques. - Instruct and assess recreational SCUBA divers to manage diving emergency situations. - Coordinate retail operations to assist customers to select appropriate and safe diving equipment, dive training organisation programmes and diving experiences. - Plan, prepare and lead dive training that is consistent with the operational procedures of an organisation. |

Education pathways |
This qualification may build on the New Zealand Certificate in Diving (Level 3) [Ref: 3886].
This qualification may lead to higher level education such as marine sciences and marine tourism. With further industry experience, graduates may progress to further higher level dive training organisation certifications. |

Recommended prerequisite for entry:
New Zealand Certificate in Diving (Level 3) [Ref: 3886] or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills. |
