Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of the Graduate Diploma in Tourism Innovation qualification is to provide the tourism sector, and hospitality and service industries, with graduates with entrepreneurial skills and knowledge who will be able to identify, research and develop opportunities and innovations that will enhance business objectives, growth, market positioning and performance. This includes tourism-focused innovations for destination development, establishing a new enterprise, exploring niche markets, and developing new products and services.
Graduates will be able to support the development and implementation of business solutions, innovations and ventures that enhance economic, social, environmental and cultural growth, capability and sustainability, across a range of organisations, roles, communities and destinations within the Aotearoa New Zealand and global hospitality, tourism and service industries, as well as wider trade and enterprise sectors. |

Graduate profile |
A graduate of the Graduate Diploma in Tourism Innovation is able to:
1. Critically analyse current issues, trends and impacts relevant to the hospitality, tourism or service sector in Aotearoa New Zealand and international contexts. 2. Investigate and identify entrepreneurial opportunities within the hospitality, tourism or service sector. 3. Research and apply designing thinking skills to identify and formulate creative approaches and solutions for business enterprise and/or growth strategies relevant to the tourism sector. 4. Research, evaluate and recommend a range of strategic business solutions to enhance business performance, culture and customer experience for a tourism context. 5. Critically evaluate and develop communication strategies to strengthen business performance, branding and outcomes for a tourism business. |

Education pathways |
The Graduate Diploma in Tourism Innovation provides an education pathway for undergraduates and those with equivalent relevant experience in the wider service sector.
Graduates of this qualification may undertake further study at graduate or postgraduate level in hospitality, tourism, service sector, marketing, business and entrepreneurship related disciplines. |

Entry Requirements |
An undergraduate degree; or a 2-year Level 7 or above diploma in a related discipline or equivalent; or a minimum 3 years' equivalent relevant experience. Evidence of English language competency where English is not a first language.
