Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the timber structure manufacturing sector of the construction industry with graduates who have the skills and knowledge required to perform timber structure detailing.
Graduates will be able to operate unsupervised to perform all aspects of timber structure detailing, maintain currency with technology and practice and support the learning of others in timber structure detailing operations. |

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Operate within regulatory frameworks as they apply to timber structure detailing. - Apply knowledge of current construction theory, practice and materials to timber structure detailing. - Work effectively with parties to timber structure detailing work to plan, coordinate and document timber structure detailing projects using a range of mediums and technologies. - Analyse structural design information to conceptualise and prepare detailing solutions and documentation using proprietary software. - Research and evaluate information to find acceptable solutions to non-standard timber structure detailing problems. - Apply quality assurance processes and incorporate emerging practices to support continuous improvement and the learning of others. |

Education pathways |
This qualification may build on the New Zealand Certificate in Timber Structure Manufacture (level 3) with strands in Wall Frame Manufacture, and Roof Truss Manufacture [Ref: 4139] or the New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4) [Ref: 2738].
This qualification may lead to the New Zealand Diploma in Architectural Technology (Level 6) [Ref: 2416] or to further higher-level study in architectural design or construction management. |
