Graduates of Te Tohu Mātauranga Whakapakari Tino Rangatiratanga will have applied skills and knowledge in Early Learning Education in Kōhanga Reo contexts and environments, within the language domain of te Reo Māori, that will equip them with the abilities to effectively teach, reflect, reclaim and revitalize Māori early learning practices and disciplines.

A graduate of a Bachelor's Degree is able to:

- demonstrate knowledge and skills related to the ideas, principles, concepts, chief research methods and problem-solving techniques of a recognised major subject

Graduates of this qualification will be:
- Competent, effective and responsive kaiako of early learning education for Kōhanga reo environments.

Education pathways
Graduates of this degree will be able to:
- study at Masters level subject to any rules, regulations or requirements of the host organisation.
Eg: He Waka Hiringa - Masters of Indigenous Studies - Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.
Masters of Indigenous Studies - Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiarangi.
Tāhuhu Whakaakoranga - Masters of Māori Education (Māori Medium) - Te Wānanga o Raukawa.
Entry Requirements
To gain entry, ākonga must hold a te reo Māori qualification at Level 5 on the NZQF, must be over 17 years old, successfully complete the whakauru (entry) process and have support and endorsement from the whānau of the kōhanga they are associated with. Furthermore, ākonga must also complete a risk assessment and safety check in compliance with the Children's Act, including police vetting. Ākonga are also required to participate in an interview process to ascertain suitability for the programme, including overall commitment to the programme and kaupapa.

WTR101: This course examines and explores the ethnogenesis of Te Ao Māori from creation through to the present time connecting and powerfully locating ākonga within Te Ao Māori. It also highlights the centrality of te reo Māori in this historical examination together with the emergence of Te Kōhanga Reo within this
history.

WTR102: This course examines the central Kaupapa and philosophy of Kōhanga Reo found in the core principles of Ngā Pou e Whā under Te Korowai o Te Kōhanga Reo. Ākonga engage with the strategic intent and plans for Kōhanga Reo.

WTR103: This course critically examines the presence and importance of te reo Māori for Māori society as well as exploring the threats that have impacted on te reo. Ākonga will gain a critical knowledge of how these impacts have affected whānau Māori today and explore solutions contributing to the survival and revival
of te reo Māori as a living language.

WTR104: This course explores and critically analyses tikanga Māori as a belief system as a foundation for Māori lifeways. The course examines the application of mātauranga Māori in the form of tikanga Māori exploring origins of tikanga and applications in the contemporary world.

WTR201: This course will examine, extrapolate and consider ways to apply knowledge of traditional Māori and contemporary health practices within Te Kōhanga Reo for the wellbeing of mokopuna and whānau.

WTR202: This course develops and applies knowledge of traditional Māori and contemporary childrearing practices within a Kōhanga Reo context.

WTR203: This course examines and applies Māori methods of ako - teaching and learning pedagogies, with mokopuna learners.

WTR204: This course examines and applies Māori centred assessment and evaluation methodologies, methods and approaches for effective teaching and learning for mokopuna in the Kōhanga Reo context. Ākonga will be able to critically reflect on and progress mokopuna learning and development using
Te Whāriki a Te Kōhanga Reo.

WTR301: This course explores and analyses curriculum design and development for quality teaching and learning of mokopuna in the Kōhanga Reo context. Ākonga will also examine the place and purpose of compliance requirements and the impacts for teaching practice.

WTR302: This course will examine the knowledge, importance and application of whanaungatanga in strengthening relationships amongst mokopuna, kaimahi and whānau according to tikanga Māori for quality learning in the Kōhanga Reo context.

WTR303: This course is a Culminating Integrated Experience where ākonga will reflect on the full body of their three year study and engagement in Kōhanga Reo derived from their cumulative learning across the nine kete and synthesise these learnings into a small exegesis (part written/part rauemi/part demonstration). This course represents a reflective study of the ākonga growth, attributes, skills
and knowledge to teach within Kōhanga Reo unsupervised.
