E whakatau ana i te māia, te pūkenga me te mārehe o tōna mōhio ki te reo me tana kaha ki te whakakōrero me te whitiwhiti kōrero i ngā horopaki ōkawa, ōpaki rānei e taunga nei ia, i ētahi kāore hoki e pērā rawa tana taunga. He tohu whakatupu i ngā pūkenga a te tangata ki te rangahau i ngā kaupapa mā te reo Māori rānei, mō te reo Māori rānei. The purpose of this qualification is to develop beginner learning to intermediate execution in communicating through te reo Māori within the home, marae, workplace, and national and international communities. This qualification demonstrates a person's ability and competence to articulate one's thoughts and expressions. It shows one's confidence, competence and precision of te reo Māori and strength of conversing in te reo Māori in familiar and unfamiliar, and formal and informal contexts. This qualification develops personal skills in researching topics for te reo Māori, in te reo Māori and/or about te reo Māori. |

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- He hāpai i te rere o te reo Māori mā te whakamahi i ngā kupu Māori, i ngā hanganga wetereo me ngā pūkenga mārehe ki tēnei taumata teitei e rere ai te reo ki ngā kāinga, ngā marae, ngā wāhi mahi, me ngā hapori katoa hei koha ki te reo. Contribute to the normalisation of te reo Māori through an ability to converse fluently in te reo Māori demonstrating an intermediate level of vocabulary and grammar use - He whai i te tika o te reo Māori mā te kawe i te teiteitanga o te mārama whānui ki te reo o te ia rā, te reo whakawhanaunga, te reo mihimihi, te reo whitiwhiti, te reo whakamārama, te reo whakaahua, mā te kōrero, te whakarongo, te tuhituhi, te pānui, hei whakaāhuru i te tangata me te reo. Demonstrate the correct use of reo Māori through an in depth understanding of colloquial, conversational and descriptive language expressions, inclusive of, greetings and acknowledgements (mihimihi), introductions (whakawhanaungatanga), through speaking, listening, writing and reading. - He tahuri ki te tirohanga Māori me te tātari i te reo whitiwhiti ki tēnei taumata teitei i roto i ngā whakamahinga reo ki te tangata, ki te taiao, ki ngā kaupapa me ngā horopaki e taunga nei te tangata me ērā kāore e tino kaha ana tana taunga, hei tiaki i te reo. Demonstrate the ability to adopt a Māori worldview, negotiate and navigate interactions with people, the environment and events through te reo Māori in familiar and unfamiliar contexts. - He whakarauora i te reo mā te Rangahau me te mārama ki te waiaro tangata me te whakamahitia o te reo taumata teitei e pārekareka ai te tangata ki tā te ihu puta e kawe nei, e mauri ora ai te reo. Contribute to the revitalisation of te reo Māori through research and an understanding of attitudes toward te reo Māori to cause positive shifts toward a state of Mauriora for te reo Māori. |
