Strategic Purpose Statement |
Postgraduate Diploma in Creative Arts Therapy is designed to provide graduates and/or professionals from arts, therapeutic or other clinical fields, with a solid foundation in ARTS therapy knowledge so that they may add ARTS therapy to their existing clinical practices, pursue further training and studies in ARTS Therapy (such as the Master in Creative Arts Therapy (Clinical) and/or develop their practice as community creative arts as therapy facilitators.
The programme provides an entry pathway to the Master of Creative Arts Therapy (Clinical) (MCAT), a programme designed to extend and deepen a student's knowledge and skills by building on attainment in the principal subjects of the creative ARTS and psychotherapy. The MCAT (Clinical) builds on the successful outcomes of the Postgraduate Diploma in Creative Arts Therapy programme and/or on qualifications and experience offered by students who hold equivalent qualifications in related fields and who have significant arts therapy experience. The low residency, blended delivery mode provides flexibility for students in the workforce or travelling from around New Zealand. |

GPO2: Evaluate and apply relevant Research and implement appropriate arts-based research processes to inform studies and professional development. GPO3: Integrate and critique relevant psychotherapy and social science theory in creative arts as Therapy / community arts as appropriate within Aotearoa New Zealand. GPO4: Demonstrate ethical and professional integrity within Situated group arts as therapy / community arts practice contexts, aligned with Te Tiriti o Waitangi and relevant professional practice standards. GPO5: Critique implications for creative arts as therapy when A|R|T|S are contiguous. |

Education pathways |
The Level 8 PGDipCAT pathways onto the Level 9 MCAT (Clinical).
Upon successful completion of the PGDipCAT, graduates might progress into the Master of Creative Arts Therapy (Clinical) seeking research opportunities, experience and professional registration or into another Level 9 related qualification programme. The PGDipCAT or similar qualification and/or recognised professional experience is a re-requisite for acceptance into the MCAT(Clinical). |

Entry Requirements |
Applicants must have either an undergraduate diploma or degree qualification equivalent to Level 7 on the NZQF (New Zealand Qualifications Framework) or equivalent work experience.
Applicants whose first language is not English are required to provide satisfactory evidence of proficiency in the English language, such as a minimum score of 625 on the TOEFL test, If English is a second language, or 6.5 on the IELTS with no band score lower than 6. |
