Strategic Purpose Statement
The Graduate Diploma in Environmental Studies enables ākonga who have completed a bachelor's degree to achieve a graduate level qualification in Environmental Studies.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Graduate Diploma Environmental Studies will be able to: 1. Evaluate complex environmental issues to develop sustainable solutions informed by ecological, social, ethical, economic knowledge, with an understanding of the cultural significance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in Aotearoa New Zealand. 2. Apply appropriate scientific methods, tools and data analysis to support the design and implementation of environmental research 3. Employ a range of strategies to communicate environmental information clearly and effectively to diverse stakeholders to support informed decision-making. 4. Apply broad understanding of ecosystem processes, legislation, and adaptive management in terrestrial and freshwater contexts to actively contribute to environment monitoring and management programmes. 5. Work within interdisciplinary teams to contribute to coordinated environmental management actions.

Entry Requirements
The academic entry requirement for the Graduate Diploma in Environmental Studies is either: 1. Successful completion of a 3-year degree or equivalent qualification; or 2. The ability to demonstrate evidence of significant work and professional experience in a related area at degree level or above. These applicants will be required to participate in an interview. Applicants with a first language other than English must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language fluency prior to acceptance in the programme. Ways in which English language fluency may be demonstrated include: 1. completion of a programme of study in which English was the language of instruction (subject to the conditions in EIT's Database for English Language Proficiency (DELP)), 2. approved scores on IELTS tests, namely an Academic score of 6 with no band lower than 5.5, or 3. accepted international equivalents achieved in a single test within the two years preceding enrolment.

Ākonga enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Environmental Studies must complete a minimum of 75 credits at Level 7. The remaining credits, bringing the total to 120, can be selected from courses within the Bachelor programme at Levels 5, 6, or 7. For all ākonga enrolling in the Graduate Diploma in Environmental Studies, the specific courses that make up each individual learning pathway will be planned collaboratively between ākonga and the programme coordinator.
