Strategic Purpose Statement |
This graduate certificate is a 17 week programme which aims to provide students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills appropriate for employment in a wide and growing number of information technology related careers, with a focus on database design, analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning. It will enhance opportunities for students to develop a broad understanding of the design, development, and application of artificial intelligence tools and technologies, preparing them for professional practice or advanced study in the field. It will develop graduates who can apply data analytics and AI methods to generate actionable insights, support ethical decision-making, and drive innovation.
The programme will equip students, who may have majored in a different discipline, with the skills and knowledge that fulfil the expectations of the information technology industry, its practitioners, and clients. |

Entry Requirements |
Entry is open to IT degree graduates. For those with an unrelated degree, entry is open to those with a B average and at least 3 years of relevant work experience in the IT or engineering industry.
Entry to those who do not have a degree is open to those with at least 5 years of work experience in the IT or engineering industry and successful achievement of at least 30 credits at Level 5 or above. However subject to the regulations of the award, those who have been able to demonstrate equivalent practical, professional or educational experience of an appropriate kind may be granted permission. Applicants who have attained the age of 20 years on or before the first day of the semester in which study for the programme is to commence and who do not meet the general admission requirements stated above and who believe that they have the level of preparedness for study at this level may apply for special admission. In assessing whether to grant special admission the primary focus will be on the applicant's ability to demonstrate a likelihood to succeed in the programme. All decisions will be at the discretion of the Head of Faculty (or designate) and Programme Manager. Applicants who do not meet the general admission requirements stated above and who believe that they have the level of preparedness for study at this level may apply for discretionary admission. In assessing whether to grant discretionary admission the primary focus will be on the applicant's ability to demonstrate a likelihood to succeed in the programme. All decisions will be at the discretion of the Head of Faculty (or designate) and Programme Manager. All applicants (international and domestic) for whom English or te reo Māori is not a first language need to provide evidence that they have the necessary English language proficiency required for the programme. International applicants must provide evidence that they have the necessary English language proficiency required for the Programme as outlined in the table for internationally recognised English proficiency outcomes for international students from one test taken in the preceding two years, or an equivalent described in NZQA Rules and on Delivery Site English Language Requirements for International Ākonga webpage. All applicants must provide evidence that they have the necessary language literacy proficiency required for the Programme as demonstrated by the equivalence of: * 10 NCEA literacy credits at Level 2 or above, made up of: o 5 credits in reading o 5 credits in writing Applicants who are unable to provide evidence of the above may be required to demonstrate capability using an approved proficiency test or an equivalent described in NZQA Rules. International applicants must provide evidence that they have the necessary English language proficiency required for the Programme as outlined in the table for internationally recognised English proficiency outcomes for international students from one test taken in the preceding two years, or an equivalent described in NZQA Rules and on Delivery Site English Language Requirements for International Ākonga Web-page. |
