Strategic Purpose Statement |
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the wider construction trades sector with work-ready people able to enter the construction trades as a labourer or an apprentice, who have developed essential transferable skills and underpinning knowledge applicable to a wide range of construction-related trades.
This qualification is suitable for people new to, or intending to enter, the construction trades sector. The optional strands recognise the knowledge and skills required of entrants to specialist trades, or the carpentry trade. The specialist trades can include painting and decorating, joinery, roofing, interior systems, exterior plastering and other onsite and offsite construction related trades. Graduates will be able to work in the construction trades sector with limited supervision. |

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- Apply safe, sustainable, and compliant work practices to the construction and specialist trades sector. - Communicate effectively in the construction trades sector. - Interpret information from plans and documentation to complete construction tasks. - Use measurements and calculations to complete familiar construction tasks. - Follow established industry methods, using familiar tools and materials, to carry out carpentry or specialist trades tasks. Graduates of the Specialist Trades strand will also be able to: - Plan own tasks and manage resources to work safely within a structured construction project. - Use current construction processes and technologies to carry out assigned work for a specialist trades project. - Implement established project monitoring practices to ensure specialist trades work meets industry standards. Graduates of the Carpentry strand will also be able to: - Plan own tasks and manage resources to work safely within a structured carpentry project. - Use current construction processes and technologies to carry out assigned work for a carpentry project. - Implement established project monitoring practices to ensure carpentry work meets industry standards. |
