Strategic Purpose Statement
Graduates will have developed specialty practice competencies to enter specialty areas of mental health nursing and be introduced to the concept and competencies of advanced practice.
Graduate profile
The Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science offers a selection of
courses designed to meet the needs of health practitioners, health
sector managers and other professionals whose practice has a focus
on health. The Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science may
be completed with or without a specialty option. For Registered Nurses with a current New Zealand annual practicing certificate, application can be made with the Nursing Council of New Zealand for an endorsement in practice
Education pathways
Pending successful completion of the required academic entry
requirements, graduates of the Postgraduate Certificate in Health
Science may progress to the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science, or
Master of Health Science. Registered Nurse graduates may progress to
the Master of Nursing.
Entry Requirements
1. An undergraduate degree in a health science with a B pass or better. A minimum of two years clinical practice may be an advantage.
2. Where the applicant may have less than a B+ average in her/his undergraduate degree s/he may be provisionally accepted.
3. Where an applicant does not hold an undergraduate degree in health science:
- the applicant shall provide evidence of having completed a relevant professional qualification, and
- provide evidence of successful completion of a relevant qualification or programme of study which is equivalent to those of first degree graduates, through the submission of a portfolio of evidence.
4. A personal interview may assist the application process.
Approved subjects include Health Science.
Applicants must be Registered Health Professionals including social Workers, who hold a current Annual Practising Certificate.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
