Strategic Purpose Statement |
This programme helps to prepare people for a career as an electrician. It has been designed to prepare trainees for a productive role in industry. Graduates who also complete the on-job requirements of the National Certificates in Electrical Engineering (Levels 2, 3 & 4) will have covered the requirements for registration as an electrician under the Electricity Act 1992. Registration is essential for people wishing to do prescribed electrical work as an electrician without the supervision of a Supervisor of Electrical Work. People seeking registration should contact the Electrical Workers Registration Board.
Graduates will have accomplished a range of knowledge and skills that include: · Knowledge of basic electrical theory, concepts, and trade practices; · Skills and knowledge related to working safely in the electrical environment, including first aid, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, safe-working practices and safety testing; · Some knowledge and application of relevant legislation, codes of practice, and standards; · Generic skills and knowledge related to working effectively in the electrical industry, such as communication skills, report writing, computer skills, and the rights and responsibilities as an employee. |

Mathematics at 4th form level
Candidates must comply with the requirements of the Electricity Act (1992), Electricity Regulations 1997 and relevant Codes of Practice and NZ Standards. IELTS 5.5 or proficiency in English Special entry is available |
