Entry Requirements
Three semester pathway - Students who meet domestic or international entry requirements (IELTS 5.5 with at least 5.5 for reading, 5.5 for writing and no section lower than 5.0, or equivalent, and/or completed year 12-13 or equivalent with literacy and numeracy credits) enrol for a three-semester programme of study. Students 20 years of age and over may be admitted to the programme without meeting academic entry requirements if they have relevant work experience and/or other relevant qualifications. Two semester pathway - Students with qualifications close to university entrance (completed year 13 or equivalent with 42 NCEA Level 3 credits, together with literacy and numeracy requirements) enrol for a two-semester programme of study. International students with IELTS 5.5 with no section less than 5.5, or equivalent, may apply to study the two-semester pathway by approval of the divisional director.

Content
The diploma has two entry points: one for students without university entrance (three semesters) and one for "near-misses" (two semesters): students whose educational and/or English language qualifications are close to that required for entrance to university. Those who are admitted to the three semester pathway will study one compulsory course in academic communication and study skills, one 100-level course from the bachelor's degree schedules and two further courses in either Mathematics and Statistics and/or Business and Commerce, Science, Introduction to M?ori Culture and Society, Landscape and Design. High-achieving students will be eligible to exit directly to degree study at the end of their first semester. Students admitted to the two semester pathway and those continuing to semester two and three from the three semester pathway will take a total of eight 100-level courses from the bachelor's degree schedules, including the common courses LINC101 and LINC102. Students' study is supported with a compulsory programme of academic workshops, tutorials and one-on-one assistance.
