Strategic Purpose Statement |
The Bachelor of Visual Arts programme provides a learning environment in which through the practice of art and supporting research and scholarship students become independent creative makers, thinkers and active agents in a local, national and global context. The programmes provide both directed and independent learning in an intensive studio situation supported by Studio Methodologies, Art History and Theory, and Professional Practice. Graduates will have technical, academic and personal skills that will enable them to pursue careers as independent artists and researchers within the realm of the creative industries, have transferable skills that enable to them to work in areas further afield, and be prepared for a lifetime of further learning.

On completion of the requirements for the Bachelor of Visual Arts, graduates will:
* Demonstrate command of highly specialised skills and processes in a major visual arts subject area. * Critically evaluate and position their work in relation to relevant concepts in Art History and Theory * Demonstrate a sound working knowledge and competency of skills in a range of studio disciplines including relevant occupational health and safety practice * Design and manage own research projects to deliver a range of outcomes supported by critical research skills * Create exhibitions, presentations, proposals, and a professional portfolio to set themselves up as sustainable practitioners. * Critically discuss and apply cultural concepts, perspectives, and histories to be a culturally engaged art practitioner in Aotearoa / New Zealand. * Work collaboratively to solve problems, achieve creative outcomes, and promote professional practice. |

Entry Requirements |
Be able to demonstrate appropriate ability in art and scholarship by submission of a portfolio, and
To have completed five years at secondary school with successful completion of units of study in art, or students are encouraged to apply with equivalent qualifications or experience demonstrated through a submission of a portfolio and include their skills in literacy through applicant's own presentation of research. NCEA Level 3: Three subjects - at Level 3 or above, made up of: 14 credits each, in three approved subjects Literacy - 10 credits at Level 2 or above, made up of: 5 credits in reading 5 credits in writing Numeracy - 10 credits at Level 1 or above, made up of: achievement standards - specified achievement standards available through a range of subjects, or unit standards - package of three numeracy unit standards (26623, 26626, 26627-a ll three required). |
