Strategic Purpose Statement |
Graduates will be eligible to sit the Nursing Council of New Zealand State Final Examinations for registration as a nurse in New Zealand. Graduates will have the skills and knowledge to work in general hospitals and a variety of community organisations.

Graduates:
* are respectful of diversity and concerned with relationship-centred caring, social justice and professional responsibility * communicate effectively and works in negotiated partnership with individuals, families and whanau to support the client through their health care experience * use knowledge of kawawhakaruruhau and te Tiriti o Waitangi as a basis of their practice to promote an environment that enables client safety, independence, quality of life and health * utilise nursing knowledge and clinical judgment to assess health needs, provide care and advice and support people to manage their health * provide comprehensive nursing assessments to develop, implement and evaluate an integrated plan of health care and provide appropriate nursing interventions In addition, graduates are able to: * practise independently and in collaboration with others in a range of settings and communities * undertake ongoing academic and scholarly activities to inform the practice of nursing and undertake responsibility for their own ongoing professional development and continued competence through formal and informal reflection * use leadership skills to delegate and direct health care provided by others, and are accountable for ensuring all health services they provide meet professional and ethical standards and relevant legislated requirements |

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
