Strategic Purpose Statement
The Bachelor of Information Technology prepares graduates for employment, having gained a good grasp of the fundamental principles and theory of Information Technology, a familiarity with information technologies commonly used in organisations, and the ability to learn new skills in a rapidly changing environment. The qualification provides graduates with the academic base required for further study and the ability to pursue a professional career in the Information Technology industry. The capstone project undertaken by students in their third year of study provides them with the practical industry-based experience of working in a team to produce an Information Technology solution.
Graduate profile
Students will be able to demonstrate:
* A specialised understanding of a body of technical and theoretical knowledge along with the ability to apply the underlying principles and concepts to a given set of facts
* An ability to self-manage learning by selecting and assigning priorities within restricted resources and to organise work to meet tight deadlines in team settings
* An ability to identify, analyse and generate solutions to complex problems in unfamiliar settings
* An ability to select, adapt and apply a range of processes in the Information Technology field
* An ability to present and defend views effectively through speech and writing
* An ability to work in groups and effectively influence others
* An ability to interpret the regulations and statutes related to the body of knowledge
Education pathways
Graduates continue study towards Postgraduate Certificate in Information Technology, Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology and Master of Information Technology.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
