A combination of assessment methods is used across the qualification, including essays, in-class tests, reflective journals, oral presentations, research projects, and examinations. Students may also complete a substantial work-integrated learning project and, with approval, may undertake an independent research thesis.

For each subject, the proposed new Master of Arts (Coursework) includes at least 90 points (but no more than 120 points) of 400-level courses from the existing BA(Hons) to build up subject expertise, up to 30 points of 400- and 500-level approved courses in related subjects, enabling students to engage in interdisciplinary work, and 60 points of a 500-level dissertation (to increase their research skills) or work-integrated learning course (e.g., an internship, to apply their theoretical knowledge), or a 30 point 500-level research project and 30 points of a WIL course.
