Strategic Purpose Statement |
Graduates of this programme are able to: demonstrate skills in the safe use of a wide variety of industrial rope access equipment, including specialist equipment or equipment not in common usage, demonstrate a wide range of rope techniques, including techniques for horizontal access using rope, including lead and aid climbing, demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes for health and safety in the workplace, demonstrate skills for emergency situations, including rescue or recovery from horizontal rope systems and points of aided climbing. Graduates will possess the skills and knowledge to determine wether rope access techniques are appropriate to a given situation, and to employ rope access techniques wherever it may be safe and appropriate.

Entry Requirements |
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age. Applicants must have an appropriate level of communication skills and be able to satisfy one or more of the following: successfully completed NCEA Level Two (or equivalent) English, Geography, History, Economics or other subjects requiring significant written work, and/or Communication Skills at Level 2 or above, and/or be able to demonstrate good written and oral communication knowledge and skills, and/or have completed a National Certificate programme in the construction or related field. Candidates must be able to enter into a training agreement with their employer and have already been credited with the Elementary Ropes Skills strand of this certificate programme. Applicants for whom English is a second language must meet IELTS (or eq Level 5.5 or above. Selection Criteria apply: where the programme is over-subscribed candidates will be selected using an informal interview to ascertain their suitability to the industry. Special Entry may be granted where evidence exists that the applicant can successfully complete the programme, this may be particularly relevant for those who are not yet 16 years of age.
