Strategic Purpose Statement
Graduates will have developed introductory pre-trade level knowledge and skills in the principles of electricity and magnetism; capacitors and semiconductors, mathematics and mechanics, electrical instruments and measurements, electrical diagrams, installation of flexible cords, soldering of wires and components, safeguards with portable appliances, employment rights and responsibilities, ability to explain/describe alternating current (ac), direct current (dc), multiple-earthed neutral (MEN), electrical fittings/components, responsibilities and limitations of holders of Electrical Service Technicians-A Registration, Electricity Regulations and Codes of Practice, electrical fittings, cables and flexible cords, electrical safety and safe work practices, replace fuses, connect/test lamp switching and control circuits, single-phase electrical appliances, metal frame appliances and single phase motors. The Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Level 2) incorporates the National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Level 2). Graduates will also have satisfied the industry requirement that a person must attend an approved training programme before sitting the Electrical Works Registration Board (EWRB) examinations for Electrical Service Technician-A (ESTA) Graduates will have the prerequisites to enrol in the National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Level 3) or pursue further education in the following qualifications: National Certificates in Electrical Engineering (Switchgear Fitter) (Level 3), Electrical Engineering (Motor Rewinding and Repair), Industrial Measurement and Control (Level 4) or Electronic Security (Installer) (Level 3). Graduates may seek to pursue employment and further training in the electrical and related industries.
Entry Requirements
Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of 10 credits at NCEA Level 1, in mathematics and/or physics or equivalent knowledge. Candidates may be required to attend an interview. Internationals IELTS Score of 5.5 with a minimum score of 5.0 in the written band.

Credits
