Strategic Purpose Statement
He Korowai Akonga: Bachelor of Education develops and applies Maori worldview, philosophies and theories of education to the practice of ako (reciprocal and transformational relationship of teaching and learning), aro (assessment, evaluation, reflective praxis), whanaungatanga (enduring relationships) and te hiringa (spirituality and passion).
Embracing Matauranga Maori, this degree supports individuals to be reflective, culturally aware and responsive practitioners, who are able to think deeply and critically about education, its issues and potential and their role within it.
An endorsement in adult education will further the abilities of individuals to teach at tertiary level.
Graduate profile
Upon completion of the qualification a graduate of He Korowai Akonga will be able to demonstrate and consciously apply Kaitiakitanga (responsible trusteeship), Koha (contributions of consequence) and Ahurutanga (safe and nurturing space) in unison to achieve Mauri Ora (conscious wellbeing) to maximise potentials of akonga in producing excellence in educational environments with others.

Entry Requirements
The entry requirements include:
- A relevant level four qualification of at least 120 credits or relevant life and/or work experience in adult education AND
- Supportive references form two appropriate people within the field of adult education AND
- Participation in an interview process to demonstrate potential suitability.
Akonga who have successfully completed the Diploma of Adult Education Level 5 and Level 6 programmes at Te Wananga o Aotearoa or at another recognised organisation may be eligible to apply for recognition of prior learning and/or credit transfer/block credit towards this programme. Applications for RPL and BCT will only apply for three enrolment periods, from January 2013 to January 2015.
