Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Toa Rangatira and Te Āti Awa with kaikōrero who are able to engage at intermediate level in whaikōrero to strengthen and reinforce the integrity of the paepae, uphold the mana of the hapū and contribute to the cultural wealth of their hapū and iwi.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Perform whaikōrero at formal occasions to contribute to the strengthening and integrity of paepae.
- Apply mana enhancing behaviour on the paepae to represent whānau, hapū and iwi with honour and integrity
- Apply kotahitanga, rangatiratanga and manaakitanga principles to work collectively and collaboratively as a member of the paepae.
- Express ūkaipōtanga through knowledge and application of kawa and tikanga of the marae.
Education pathways
The graduate will be prepared for further studies in whaikōrero and the wider field of mātauranga Māori including the Poutuarongo Mātauranga Māori.
Graduates with a strong desire to be fluent in te reo Māori may apply to enter the Poutuarongo Reo Māori.
Employment pathways
Graduates will be suitable for kaikōrero activities and roles. They will be prepared to participate as a member of the pae tapu to support and uphold the mana of their whānau and hapū and strengthen and reinvigorate the paepae.
The skills and knowledge of the graduate will be appreciated by a range of organisations especially those that value te reo, tikanga, whaikōrero ability, teamwork and cultural understanding and practice.
Ultimately, this qualification may be regarded as a step towards the broader aim of providing iwi, whānau and hapū with kaikōrero who exhibit the following qualities:
