Strategic Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the marine sector with people who are able to work safely
and within the regulatory framework in the maintenance and operation of marina and boatyard facilities.

This qualification is for people who are currently employed in a marina environment or for those who wish
to work in a marina or boatyard environment.

This qualification includes strands that recognise knowledge and practical skills for the operations and
maintenance of marina and boatyard facilities.

Graduates will be able to work unsupervised in marine operations or in a boatyard operation, dependent
upon the strand completed.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

- Work safely within marine legislative, health and safety requirements, and organisation policies and procedures to ensure safe, compliant, sustainable, and efficient operations in a marine or boatyard environment.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively in an operations team with stakeholders and the general public in a marina or boatyard environment; and behave in a professional manner with colleagues, managers, and customers.
- Apply specific industry knowledge and terminology to communicate effectively.
- Apply knowledge of the marina or boatyard environment to implement an organisation's operational and financial requirements.
- Apply marina management best practice to operational areas to inform effective management of a marina or boatyard environment.

Graduates of the Boatyard Operations strand will also be able to:
- Apply knowledge of boatyard equipment, boat types, and structures to safely control the lifting, movement, and storage of vessels on hardstand areas.

Graduates of the Marina Operations strand will also be able to:
- Apply knowledge of marina design and construction, and boat mooring to maintain marina infrastructure.
- Operate a patrol and maintenance vessel in a marina workplace.
- Report on marina assets utilising the asset management register to inform actions in a marina environment.
Education pathways
This qualification may build on from the:

- National Certificate of Educational Achievement (Level 2) [Ref: 0973]; or

- National Certificate of Educational Achievement (Level 3) [Ref: 1039].

This qualification may lead to the:

- New Zealand Diploma in Business (Level 5) [Ref: 2459] strand - Leadership and Management;

- New Zealand Certificate in Project Management (Level 4) [Ref: 2462].
Employment pathways
Graduates will be able to work in a range of unsupervised roles in the marina facilities, including:

· dock master

· marina operations staff

· boatyard operations staff

· boatyard or marina manager
