Strategic Purpose Statement |
The aim of this diploma is to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge in a wide range of art disciplines including; art history, painting, print-making, photography, sculpture, toi raranga, toi whakairo, digital and graphic art. This qualification will prepare students with current knowledge to work within the creative arts industries and to make informed continuing study choices. Educational pathways include entrance into the Diploma in Art and Design (Advanced) at Waiariki, the third year of a four- year Bachelor of Fine Arts at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design, or the final year of Bachelor of Visual Arts at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design.

Graduate profile |
On successful completion of this programme, students will have the skills and knowledge to:
1. demonstrate a wide range of knowledge and practical skills in variety of art media including; painting, print-making, photography, sculpture, toi raranga, toi whakairo, digital and graphic art; 2. critique and analyse by utilizing design and historical theory in relation to one's own art practice and that of others; 3. design, plan and produce artefacts or art experiences to an exhibition standard; 4. document in visual diary all art based research and practical processes; 5. utilise a range of media for a predetermined effects; 6. use industry relevant and appropriate software to complete set tasks; 7. identify clear vocational pathways in relation to art and design including graphic designer, museum and gallery work, studio/public works artist, artist's assistant, retail display designer, printer, photographer, and photographer's assistant; and 8. gain entry to the Diploma in Art and Design (Advanced), a Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Visual Arts. |

Entry Requirements |
Bursary passes in 2 subjects 6th Form certificate with 20 points or less which includes two art subjects Previous study in art.
