Strategic Purpose Statement |
The aim of this diploma is to enable students to acquire currency of knowledge in the health care system and the role of the health professional within Aotearoa/New Zealand. Students studying this qualification will examine health from an individual, whānau/family and community perspective. This qualification will introduce and broaden expertise in the areas of palliative care, rehabilitation and health of the older adult.

Graduate profile |
After successful completion of this qualification, graduates will have the skills and knowledge to be able to: analyse government and governance structures that influence health outcomes for individuals and communities; within Aotearoa/New Zealand; have an appreciation of the health professional role and responsibilities within Aotearoa/New Zealand; critically explore palliative care and rehabilitation from a multi-layered approach; discuss the complexities of aging from an holistic perspective; demonstrate knowledge of health experiences and health outcomes from a social, political and economic perspective for individuals, whānau/family and the wider community; articulate knowledge of primary health concepts, health promotion and health prevention; pursue further studies; and work within a range of health care settings, such as aged care, rehabilitation, palliative care and disability support services.

Entry Requirements |
Domestic Students: a minimum of 42 credits at Level 3 or higher on the NZQF, including a minimum of 14 credits at Level 3 or higher in each of two subjects from an approved subject list, with a further 14 credits at Level 3 or higher taken from no more than two additional domains on the NZQF or approved subjects; and a minimum of 14 credits on the NZQF in Numeracy at Level 1 or higher made up of credits in Mathematics or Statistics and Probability or Pangarau or unit standards 26623, 26626, 26627; and a minimum of eight credits at Level 2 or higher in English or Te Reo Māori made up of four credits in Reading and four credits in Writing).
