Strategic Purpose Statement
This Graduate Diploma prepares graduates to work within the rapidly transforming disability sector and beyond as confident, competent, responsive and collaborative leaders who understand the complexity of the environment and possess a range of strategies for engaging with people who use disability services.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

1. Demonstrate leadership within the disability sector, which includes a commitment to best practice, on-going professional development, and effectively managing risk.
2. Demonstrate leadership within the community, which includes advocating for social justice and change; supporting inclusion, choice and control; and challenging stigma and discrimination.
3. Work collaboratively and communicate effectively in teams and across services in a disability and health and wellbeing context.
4. Critically evaluate information and apply appropriate models of health and wellbeing to inform innovative, evidence-based practice when working with disabled people.
5. Understand organisational budgeting, financial planning, service design and evaluation for the disability sector, in the context of competing political, social and organisational demands.
Education pathways
Graduates of the programme will be well prepared to enter Postgraduate Diploma and Masters qualifications in related areas of study such as drug and alcohol studies, disability studies, criminology, public health and policy and development studies. For example, students may wish to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma or Masters in Public Health, a Master in Public Policy, a Master in Development Studies or a Master in Applied Social Work. These kinds of interdisciplinary postgraduate qualifications offered by New Zealand Universities recognise Graduate Diplomas such as this as satisfying some of the educational entry criteria
Employment pathways
Graduates will be equipped to work in a range of roles with different organisations. Examples of specific roles include:

Entry Requirements
Applicants must have either, an undergraduate degree in a relevant field, or professional experience in the disability sector to the satisfaction of the Programme Leader. Students who have completed The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand's Bachelor of Social Health and Wellbeing are not eligible for enrolment in this programme.

Qualification Type

Credits
