Strategic Purpose Statement
This qualification provides a forward-looking, versatile programme of study for graduate students.
The focus is on applied digital media and the development of skills and knowledge that are valued
in a range of creative occupations and professions and in the wider community. The programme
addresses both specific skills in the discipline and also transferable skills needed for collaborative
and entrepreneurial work. Students graduate with an expectation of ongoing change throughout
their careers, and with the skills, attributes and capability to adapt to such changes.
Graduate profile
Graduates will be able to:
1. Demonstrate advanced technical proficiency, artistry and understanding of digital media
technology.
2. Use research and problem-solving skills, critical thinking and imagination when creating
and developing innovative ideas, products, processes or presentations.
3. Demonstrate awareness of social and cultural diversity and tikanga Māori, and respond
appropriately in their creative practice.
4. Apply collaborative, entrepreneurial skills to contribute to a creative development project,
within the discipline or in a multi-disciplinary team.
5. Demonstrate responsible, professional, ethical and sustainable business practice in
community and/or commercial environments.

Graduates may progress to:
- Postgraduate degree study in creative disciplines.

Opportunities within the digital media industry include employment in public organisations, private
companies, creative enterprises, portfolio careers, self-employment, roles in funding agencies, and
teaching (further training required for school teaching).

Entry Requirements
Bachelor degree in a creative discipline
OR
- Ability to demonstrate equivalent practical experience, professional or educational experience appropriate to the Graduate Diploma's digital media major discipline.

If a prior degree was in a different creative discipline from the major offered in the Graduate Diploma, evidence of ability based on portfolio and/or interview is required.

Portfolio evidence and/or interview is also required to demonstrate equivalent practical experience, professional or educational experience.

International: IELTS 6.00 (no band lower than 5.5), or equivalent.

Content
The content of the Graduate Diploma courses focuses on developing students' expertise,
knowledge, skills and creativity in the major discipline, Digital Media. Study includes significant
project work designed to integrate and apply learning from other studies. Particular attention is
given to creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, communication, cultural awareness and
employability, which underpin the teaching content, delivery and assessment.
Compulsory Courses:
Culture and Contexts, Creative Enterprise 2, Contexts and Practice, Major Projects.
Plus one elective in the Digital Media major selected from the following (in any given year not all
courses may be offered): Applied Media Studio 3, Applied Media Studio 4, Image Making Studio 3, Image Making Studio 4.

Credits

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
