Strategic Purpose Statement
The principal aim of the Bachelor of Business course is to promote skills, competencies and attributes which are valued by the wider business community. The programme is designed to develop interdisciplinary skills and attitudes to give graduates a competitive advantage in an increasingly demanding and complex world. The Bachelor of Business focuses on developing skills in critical thinking, communication and relationship building.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Bachelor of Business will * have strong interpersonal communication and influencing skills * understand a variety of business concepts, processes and procedures relevant to public and private organisations * be able to identify opportunities, solve problems and achieve business objectives by the use of suitable techniques with reference to ethical frameworks * be able to critically evaluate the international, cross-cultural, economic, social and legal * environments within which business functions * be able to anticipate, adapt and promote changes important to a business * have a more developed understanding of their major area of specialization, including the ability to select and apply appropriate qualitative and quantitative techniques * recognise the limits of their current knowledge and have the desire to continue learning throughout life. In addition, students completing the following majors will have additional knowledge and skills Accounting major * Understand concepts, processes and procedures relevant to the accounting function within a business * Prepare and analyse accounting reports * Identify and solve accounting related problems using qualitative and quantitative methods and techniques. * Critically evaluate, analyse and report on financial and non-financial issues pertaining to accounting in a dynamic business environment. * Communicate financial results to users of financial information and reports. * Identify and evaluate ethical dilemmas in the accounting profession Human Resource Management major: * Be aware of the full range of roles and duties of Human Resource practitioners. * Be familiar with relevant contemporary theories and practices. * Possess the ability to implement human resource policies and practices. * Have developed the capacity to successfully carry out human resource tasks on behalf of their employer. * Be able to liaise effectively with other senior managers and line mangers. * Be aware of the ethical responsibilities of those charged with carrying out human resource tasks. * Be familiar with statutory obligations relevant to human resources. * Be able to liaise effectively with external agencies such as unions. * Have the capacity to be an effective problem-solver. * Be able to display sensitivity and nous in the handling of human resource issues. * Understand the changing environment in which human resource is developing and the impact that has upon organisational practice. Information Systems and Technology major: * Understand and apply the basic concepts and operation of both Information Systems and Technology. * Define problems within the Information Systems and Technology context, perform analysis, and recommend systems and platforms. * Design and test systems. * Construct or manage the construction of systems. * Manage the operations of Information Systems and Technology at a variety of levels. * Provide and implement solutions to issues related to data communications and information management. * Provide for the social, legal, security and ethical aspects inherent in the implementation of systems. * Apply management skills in an Information Systems and Technology environment. * Develop Information Systems and Technology policy and contribute to strategic planning. Management major: * respond to an information economy marked by accelerating change. * analyse, organise and synthesise information * communicate accurately with confidence * recognise the importance of being open to new concepts and learning. * recognise the implications of shifting markets and acknowledge the need for creativity. * think critically * recognise and deal with ambiguity * have an integrated view of organisations * recognise the implications and significance of particular problems. Marketing major: * apply marketing concepts to solve marketing problems and create value for the organisation and its stakeholders * critically examine the legal implications of marketing activities and recommend responsible actions * assess implications of consumer behaviour and impact of other environmental factors on marketing activities * liaise effectively with other internal (organisational) functions and outside agencies, for example market research, advertising, and media agencies * critically analyse the underlying theory and practice of marketing management * prepare proposals and undertake marketing research projects to assist marketing decision making * recommend suitable marketing communication strategies and use modern communication techniques to reach, attract, and retain customers * prepare operational marketing plans and contribute towards strategic marketing planning * analyse the challenges of contemporary marketing contexts and recommend suitable approaches to address them.

Students successfully completing the Bachelor of Business will be equipped to
undertake post graduate study.
Employment pathways
Upon completing the Bachelor of Business no major, graduates will be prepared for a career in a variety of business and management roles.
Upon completing the Accounting major, graduates will find that there are a variety of career opportunities and specialisations open to students. Accountants are employed in public practice, industry, government and education. Accountants may specialise in auditing, financial accounting, management accounting, taxation, financial management, insolvency or consultancy work. Other accountants may have positions, which involve them in a variety of these specialisations.
Graduates from the Management major may be employed as professional managers in a wide variety of contexts. They may be employed in profit making and non-profit making business organisations that range from small, local enterprises to very large
multinational and international corporations. They may fill positions from first-line management through to senior executive level. They will be equipped to effectively and efficiently plan, organise, lead and control an organisation's human and nonhuman resources so that it is better able to achieve its objectives. Some may choose to operate their own businesses.
Upon completing the Human Resource Management major, graduates should be able to effectively contribute to the management of the employment relations function within their organisations. This should allow them to gain a position in a technical or specialist area of a Human Resource Management role or to carry out Industrial Relation roles within or for their organisation. For those who do not wish to work within the specialist roles of Human Resources there will be career opportunities in the area of general administration and management. Given the increasing significance of the statutory regulation of the employment process it is important for all managers to gain a deeper appreciation of the impact of these on day-to-day operations in all organisations.
Graduates of the Information Systems and Technology major are expected to work as business analysts, systems analysts, developers, Information Systems and Technology customer service and support providers (operators), Information Systems
and Technology managers and consultants.
Graduates of the Marketing major may seek job opportunities in areas such as market and business analysis, business development, strategy planning and management, marketing research, customer relationship management, product/brand/category management, sales management, direct marketing, business-to-business marketing,
