To contribute to the capability and capacity of the Maori Nursing Workforce that enhances other models of service delivery across the spectrum of health.
Graduate profile
The graduate as a beginning practitioner will:
- Provide culturally safe and clinically competent nursing services to individuals, whānau,
hapū, iwi, community, and all others within a variety of health setting contexts
- Advocate tikanga, and equity access to healthcare, and influence changes within and for
Māori society that meets the health and social needs of whānau, hapū and iwi
- Whakamana their whakapapa and able to make appropriate professional judgements within
their specific clinical and cultural contexts
- Demonstrate leadership in nursing practice within their chosen area of work, particularly in
the primary health area

- Reflect on their own professional practice using Te Pae Māhutonga as an underpinning
framework
- Utilise quality nursing practice informed by mātauranga Māori, rangahau, research, current
evidence-based nursing approaches and ongoing professional development.
