The purpose of this standard is to provide the urban pest management (UPM) industry with technicians who can provide an overview of the purpose and impacts of UPM. The standard outlines the learning outcome, the assessment evidence and the performance standard required to show a trainee can explain: . the social, economic and environmental purpose and impacts of UPM and, . the broad good practice principles of integrated pest management. Technicians will understand the general purpose and impacts of UPM. They will be able to explain to consumers and clients the role of pest technicians and integrated pest management within a built environment.

This standard outlines the learning outcome, the assessment evidence and the performance standard required to show a trainee: . understands, in relation to their work, the legislative and regulatory framework, and controls that the UPM industry must operate within; . knows the reasons behind this and the consequences of non-compliance. Technicians will know the legislative and regulatory controls that govern the UPM industry and will know how this translates into workplace policy and procedure.

This standard outlines the learning outcomes, assessment evidence and the performance standard required to show a trainee knows, understands and can explain health and safety and hazard identification and risk management in the UPM industry. Technicians will know the role of health and safety in relation to safe work practices in the UPM industry for themselves and others; including an understanding of hazard and risk planning and management. They will be able to communicate the safety features of UPM to clients.
