This unit standard is for people working in a commercial seafood operation.
People credited with this unit standard are able to describe: the construction and handling of rope; and chains and related fittings used for commercial fishing activities, and the requirements for maximising the working life of chains and fittings.
They are also able to: identify signs of potential failure in ropes; splice a rope; apply a chain stopper on a wire rope, under supervision; and identify the main components of fishing gear from a diagram.
