Our process for new programme requests

The process for requests from kura, schools or tertiary organisations (TEOs) to deliver programmes owned by Māori Qualifications Services (MQS)

1. Permission request

The kura, school or TEO email us to ask for permission to deliver an MQS owned programme.

mqs@nzqa.govt.nz - email Māori Qualifications Services

2. Programme Request Form (PRF)

  • MQS send the kura, school or TEO a Programme Request Form (PRF).
  • The kura, school or TEO sends the completed PRF to MQS. In their application they need to show that:
    • they are supported by the Principal's Nominee (PN), Principal or CEO and/or Academic board.
    • they are capable of delivering the programme for a sustained amount of time.

3. MQS evaluation

MQS evaluates and prepares an outcome email. The outcome email tells the applicant if their request is supported or not supported.

If the request is not supported

We'll clearly explain:

  • our reasons, and
  • what needs to be addressed in any future request.

If the request is supported

We'll send a letter or email of support to the kura, school or TEO. We'll also provide:

  • the programme guidance resources
  • support materials
  • the Ākonga handbook Assessment Support Materials.

4. Applying for accreditation

Once the request is supported, the kura, school or TEO must apply online for accreditation.

Their application should include their MQS support letter or email.

5. Quality Assurance Māori (QAM) advises of approval

The QAM team tells the provider the outcome, and lets MQS know. MQS provide ongoing support as needed.
