Strategic Purpose Statement
The Graduate Diploma in Supply Chain and Shipping Management is designed for those employed in, or interested in, the supply chain, shipping and international trade industry or its related sectors.
The programme addresses the needs of people currently working in the industry, wishing to enhance their industry skills and knowledge with a view to further developing their career path in international trade management.
When you graduate as a Trade, Logistics or Shipping Manager you will effectively and responsibly manage tasks employing applied logistics practice and sea trade analysis in response to industry research, global and local legislation and economic influences. This will be supported by your excellent business communication and marketing strategies
Graduate profile
Graduates of this programme will be able to: demonstrate knowledge of the techniques, processes and management involved in developing and marketing transport services and products within a supply chain; demonstrate an understanding of the economic environment of trade and transport and to analyse cost, select and document the most appropriate door to door movement of an international consignment; analyse legal, commercial and social legislation, codes and conventions required to manage risk in the supply chain effectively; analyse and apply the national and international legislation and the codes and conventions that control the management and operation of a commercial ship; evaluate the significance of transport and maritime law to a commercial shipping operation; categorise and analyse sources of risk; manage a complex risk situation that involves exposure to a series of related supply chain risk events, including the perspective risk process; demonstrate knowledge of international trade transactions; demonstrate knowledge of costing/pricing of goods from source to end user; demonstrate the use of research in the development of marketing and communication theories within transport organisations; critique marketing strategies in a transport organisation; assess and match the needs of a ship operator with the range of registration and flag options available; assess and apply the techniques involved in using a scenario approach for strategic foresight.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet the following entry requirements:
Successful completion of an appropriate NQF level 6 or 7 programme, e.g. a business related degree or Successful completion of MIT Diploma in Supply Chain Management; plus relevant work experience or Successful completion of MIT Diploma in Shipping and Freight; plus relevant work experience* or Evidence of at least 3 years relevant work experience at a senior operational level or equivalent (prospective students may be asked to complete a research essay to show academic ability). and Have English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English. Any applicants whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) band score of 6.0 (with no score below 5.5) or equivalent. and Students must be able to show a positive attitude to learning and achievement, a high standard of personal discipline and effective communication skills. These will be normally assessed by way of an interview. Alternative means to assess these criteria will be adopted where an interview is not practicable, as in the case of international students.

Following an interview, the panel will decide whether the prospective student should be accepted or declined entry to the programme. Suitable letters will then be forwarded to the student. Applications from those accepted into the course will be retained.
