The aim of the Bachelor of Education (Primary, Pasifika) is to prepare teaching professionals to meet the current and future demands of the Aotearoa New Zealand primary through to intermediate schooling contexts (school years 0-8). This programme is positioned to ensure student teachers have the very best chance of access and success, drawing on their histories and experience with the ability to enter the programme through additional non-traditional exemptions complementary to the initial teacher education regulations as set by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Graduates will be culturally confident and competent responsive practitioners capable of using evidence to make decisions about the learning needs of individual learners. This will be achieved in a field-based learning model that emphasises partnership/relationships, culture and identity, teaching and learning and acquisition of skills and knowledge. Student teachers will demonstrate excellence in practice, focus on quality educational outcomes for learners and contribute to a wide range of current and future educational settings.

The graduate profile covers the following areas: knowledge and skills; critical thinking and research; problem solving, collaboration and communication, social, cultural and inclusive contexts, professional practice and standards. Graduates of the Bachelor of Education (Primary, Pasifika) will be able to:
* Apply appropriate theoretical knowledge and practical skills to primary education using diverse Pasifika worldviews, including knowledge of primary curriculum and pedagogical approaches and digital literacy skills for academic, professional and classroom contexts
* Formulate appropriate solutions and apply creativity and initiative to solve complex problems in a primary education context
* Display well-developed critical thinking capabilities, including researching, analysing, evaluating, challenging and reflecting on information, decisions and behaviour for teaching best practice.
* Interpret and communicate knowledge, skills and ideas to education-specialist and non-specialist audiences, expressing ideas, sharing knowledge, establishing rapport and building collaborative relationships
* Demonstrate commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi partnership and inclusion influenced by Māori and Pasifika worldviews appropriate for teaching children and working with families/whānau; including the use of te reo Māori with respect for cultural differences and other forms of diversity.
* Create an innovative and safe learning-centred culture that meets the well-being and holistic educational needs of primary-aged learners, demonstrating professional standards and practice and collaborative, open-minded and relational approaches to primary teaching and learning

Graduates may progress to post-graduate study in relevant fields.

In order to be admitted to the Bachelor of Education (Primary, Pasifika) programme, applicants must:
* Be 18 years of age or older at the start of the programme, and
* Satisfy English Language Competency requirements as determined by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand policy (further detailed on section 6.2 - p. 91-92), and
* Meet the requirements as per the Children's Act 2014 prior to gaining entry into the programme; and
* Complete an interview with a selection panel of at least two registered teachers, and
* Satisfy the minimum diagnostic literacy and numeracy entry assessments marks
* An academic panel made up of members of the Schools Programme Committee including the Head of School will approve programme acceptance upon review of all evidence provided.
For individuals under 20 years of age, in addition to the above criteria:
* Hold UE or a recognised equivalent such as International Baccalaureate or Cambridge International, or
* To be able to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the provider that they have the skills and ability to study at tertiary level.

Language Competency Requirements:
Prior to entry, applicants must demonstrate language competency by providing one of the Teaching Council's approved evidence of language competency, as follows:
* New Zealand University Entrance literacy credits at either NCEA level 2 or 3;
* New Zealand University Entrance;
* New Zealand tertiary entrance qualification gained on completing senior secondary school prior to the introduction of the current University Entrance;
* International Baccalaureate full diploma in English medium (24 points minimum).
* Cambridge International Examinations minimum of 120 points on the UCAS Tariff plus meeting the CIE literacy requirements;
* All primary schooling and at least three years secondary schooling completed in the English language while living in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, or South Africa. For South Africa, applicants also need to provide a South African Matriculation Certificate Minimum Higher-Grade D pass or Standard Level 5 in English or a South African Senior Certificate Minimum Higher-Grade D pass or Standard Level 5 pass in English;
* Six years of education comprising secondary schooling to at least year 12 and at least two years of successful tertiary education, taught in English as the primary language of instruction and through face-to-face learning and assessment such as tutorials, presentations, seminars, and supervisory meetings, and was gained while living in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, or South Africa. For South Africa, applicants also need to provide a South African Matriculation Certificate Minimum Higher-Grade D pass or Standard Level 5 in English or a South African Senior Certificate Minimum Higher-Grade D pass or Standard Level 5 pass in English
* Awarded a single qualification at NZQF level 7 or above which took two or more years of full-time study to complete and was taught in English as the primary language of instruction and through face-to-face learning and assessment such as tutorials, presentations, seminars, and supervisory meetings, and was gained while living in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, or South Africa. For South Africa, applicants also need to provide a South African Matriculation Certificate Minimum Higher-Grade D pass or Standard Level 5 in English or a South African Senior Certificate Minimum Higher-Grade D pass or Standard Level 5 pass in English;
* Awarded Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA);
* Awarded Trinity College London Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CertTESOL);
