Strategic Purpose Statement |
Graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing Programme will have the skills and knowledge to meet Nursing Council New Zealand requirements to become a New Zealand Registered Nurse (NCNZ, 2024). Graduates will be ready to work as a beginning nurse in all areas where registered nurses are employed both nationally and internationally. In doing so graduates from this programme make an important and unique contribution towards improving health and education outcomes for all populations.

The graduate as a beginning practitioner will:
1. Provide inclusive, collaborative person and whānau centred care that upholds mana, advocates for social justice and respects diversity and intersectional identities. 2. Provide culturally safe care, while working in partnership and applying effective, professional communication with individuals, whanau and the health care team. 3. Uphold the obligations of te Tiriti o Waitangi, demonstrate kawa whakaruruhau and cultural safety and promote equitable health outcomes for tangata whenua. 4. Provide competent nursing practice informed by differing worldviews, research, evidence informed knowledge, and ongoing professional development. 5. Apply assessment frameworks, critical thinking and clinical judgement to develop, implement and evaluate nursing care. 6. Demonstrate leadership qualities and accountability for meeting professional, legal and ethical standards for safe nursing practice. |

University entrance or equivalent academic/work experience and evidence of suitability based on health screening, safety check and referee reports.

The credit value relates to the size of the qualification. One credit equates to ten hours of learning. One year's full-time study at a provider is usually 120 credits, but if you are studying part-time or in the work place the credit value may vary.
